Chelsea FC has initiated discussions to sign Atalanta left-back Marco Palestra, as reported by Italian media. The 21-year-old defender, who spent last season on loan at Cagliari, showcased his talent by being named Serie A’s best defender and recorded the fastest sprint speed in the league at 27.96 km/h. With Chelsea FC looking to strengthen their defensive options following Marc Cucurella's recent transfer to Real Madrid for £51.8m, Palestra has emerged as a key target. Both Chelsea FC and Manchester City have reached out to Palestra’s representatives to explore a potential move to the Premier League this summer. However, reports indicate that Palestra prefers to stay in Italy, awaiting a possible agreement between Inter Milan and Atalanta. Atalanta is reportedly seeking a transfer fee of €50 million (£43.2m) plus €5m (£4.3m) in add-ons for the young defender. Meanwhile, Chelsea FC's new manager Xabi Alonso will have Reece James and Malo Gusto available on the right side, but the club is keen to secure Palestra to bolster their squad ahead of the upcoming season.
