Chelsea FC veteran John Terry has criticized the decision to pass him over for the interim manager job, highlighting his credentials and dedication to the team. Terry believes no one was more qualified than him to take the interim Chelsea job following the sacking of Liam Rosenior.

What happened?

The Blues dismissed Rosenior after just three-and-a-half months in charge and chose to make Calum McFarlane their temporary boss for the second time during the 2025/26 season.

Terry shared his verdict on the situation, stating that he was the most qualified person for the job. He said: “Nobody more qualified than me”.

Why it matters for Chelsea FC

Terry has previously bemoaned a lack of opportunities to further his coaching journey, having only worked at Aston Villa as assistant coach and a part-time mentor in the Chelsea academy.

What comes next?

The hope will be that Terry is not required to take the job on a full-time basis, with Xabi Alonso handed a four-year contract as Chelsea head coach in mid-May. Alonso will face a number of transfer decisions over the next few months, including the future of Enzo Fernandez.
