Real Madrid are preparing to 'test the resolve' of Chelsea FC with an offer for wantaway midfielder Enzo Fernandez, according to reports. Fernandez is keen to end his three-year spell at Stamford Bridge and move to the Bernabeu this summer. Chelsea paid £106m to sign the Argentina international from Benfica in January 2023 and want around £120m to sell. Fernandez has been a mainstay in the Chelsea team over the past three seasons, making over 50 appearances in each of the last two campaigns. But he angered Chelsea supporters and former manager Liam Rosenior by repeatedly flirting with Real Madrid earlier in the season. Fernandez has reportedly informed Chelsea of his desire to leave after a frustrating campaign in which the Premier League giants finished just 10th, failing to qualify for any European competition. Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has promised incoming manager Jose Mourinho big signings this summer and the ex-Chelsea boss is believed to be interested in bringing Fernandez to the Bernabeu. Chelsea are not actively looking to sell Fernandez but The Sun say Real Madrid are planning to test their resolve with an official bid. But it is claimed Xabi Alonso, who will take charge at Stamford Bridge in July, wants Fernandez to stay and is keen for him to be part of his squad for next season. Alonso will look to bring in several of his own signings during the summer transfer window, with another striker and centre-back set to be targeted. The former Liverpool and Real Madrid midfielder will not want to lose any valued members of the squad, however, and puts Fernandez in that bracket. Chelsea are more likely to sell Marc Cucurella, who has also reportedly asked to leave amid interest from Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and multiple Premier League clubs. Cucurella was critical of the Chelsea board earlier in the season, questioning their transfer policy and the decision to sack Enzo Maresca. The Sun say Chelsea would prefer to send Cucurella abroad rather than sell him to a direct Premier League rival if a move becomes inevitable. Cucurella started his career at Barcelona and ex-Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink 'can see' the Spaniard moving to the Nou Camp this summer. 'I can see that happening,' the former Premier League Golden Boot winner told __10bet__. 'That's his boyhood club. He's done exceptionally well for Chelsea and been one of their better players. Barcelona needs to strengthen and they're looking in that exact spot. Chelsea is not in the Champions League right now, so I can see it and I understand it. He's been exceptionally good for Chelsea.'
