Transfer Details

Sam Kerr, the 32-year-old Australian striker, has confirmed her exit from Chelsea FC after her contract expired in May. She will join NWSL side Gotham FC on a free transfer. The move marks Kerr’s third stint in the league, following two seasons with the Chicago Red Stars from January 2018 to December 2019.

Chelsea Legacy

During her six-and-a-half-year stay at Chelsea, Kerr made 158 appearances and netted 116 goals. She helped the club secure five Women’s Super League titles, three FA Cups and three League Cups. Kerr also claimed back-to-back WSL Golden Boot awards in 2020-21 and 2021-22. After an anterior cruciate ligament injury in January 2024 that sidelined her until September 2025, she returned to finish the 2025-26 campaign with 17 goals and three assists across all competitions.

Gotham FC’s New Signings

Gotham FC currently sits fifth in the NWSL standings and has bolstered its squad in recent windows. The club signed USWNT star Jaedyn Shaw in an intraleague transfer and acquired former Chelsea teammate Guro Reiten, a Norway forward. Kerr will join them alongside former Chelsea players Jess Carter, Ann-Katrin Berger and Reiten, adding experience and goal-scoring prowess to the roster.
