Is Mike Penders Ready to Become Chelsea's Starting Goalkeeper?

Chelsea FC manager Xabi Alonso has made it clear that the club will not be signing a new number one goalkeeper in the summer transfer window. Instead, he has expressed his confidence in Rob Sanchez, Mike Penders, and Teddy Sharman-Lowe. Alonso praised Penders, a young goalkeeper who had a great season on loan at Strasbourg, saying he is a mature goalkeeper with good positioning and a proactive attitude.

However, many Chelsea fans are still pushing for an upgrade on Sanchez, who has been benched on several occasions in the past three years. Penders, on the other hand, has shown impressive statistics, ranking seventh in France's Ligue 1 last season with 3.1 goals prevented. He also has the endorsement of Chelsea's legendary former goalkeeping coach, Christophe Lollichon, who saw Penders up close when his current employers, Dunkerque, faced Strasbourg in the French Cup last season.

Lollichon praised Penders' mindset, saying he is a hard worker who is always eager to study video of his performances and ask the club's coaches and analysts what he could do to improve. Penders has just 78 senior professional league appearances to his name, but he is determined to make a name for himself at Chelsea.

The question now is whether Penders will get his chance to shine in the Premier League. Will he finally become Chelsea's starting goalkeeper, or will Sanchez continue to hold onto the spot?
