Chelsea FC Unfazed by Martinez Transfer Speculation

Chelsea FC remain happy with the goalkeepers already at the club and are not interested in Emi Martinez. The club is content with the options they already have in their ranks, with Robert Sanchez as No1 and Mike Penders as second choice.

What happened?

The Blues were linked with the Porto and Portugal No1 Diogo Costa earlier in the transfer window, but it is understood Chelsea never held any interest in him this summer.

Why it matters for Chelsea FC

Chelsea are preparing to head into the 2026-27 season with Sanchez again as their first-choice shot-stopper. He was briefly dropped last season by Liam Rosenior in favour of now-Strasbourg goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen, but that had disastrous results and the Spaniard was reinstated.

What comes next?

Chelsea are expected to remain first-choice under new manager Xabi Alonso. Martinez, 33, appears to be in limbo after a potential move to Juventus broke down on Sunday night. Juventus then agreed a loan deal for Tottenham’s goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario instead, which included an £8.5million option to buy.

League standing (final 2025 table -- new season not yet under way)

Chelsea FC are currently 10th in the Premier League, with 52 points from 38 games, and are 33 points behind leaders Arsenal.

Goals this season

The Blues have scored 58 goals and conceded 52 so far this season, with a +6 goal difference.

Transfer stance

Chelsea are not interested in signing Emi Martinez, despite transfer speculation. The club is happy with their current goalkeepers and are preparing for the 2026-27 season with Robert Sanchez as their first-choice shot-stopper.
