Chelsea are among a group of elite European clubs tracking the progress of South African forward Relebohile Mofokeng. The 21-year-old has made a fast start to life at Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, attracting attention from scouts across the continent.

Mofokeng joined the Belgian side from Orlando Pirates in early July, signing a four-year deal with an option for a fifth season. He scored the decisive penalty in the Belgian Super Cup final against Club Brugge on his competitive debut at the end of July. Since then, he has netted multiple goals and provided an assist across several appearances in all competitions, including a goal on his Pro League debut and another in a UEFA Europa League victory over Viktoria Plzeň.

His form has also translated to the international stage. Mofokeng scored twice for South Africa, nicknamed Bafana Bafana, in a commanding Africa Cup of Nations qualifying win over Eritrea in late September.

European interest

Transfer specialist Ekrem Konur reported that Chelsea, Brighton & Hove Albion, Atletico Madrid and Napoli are all monitoring the attacker's situation. Football analyst Uche Anuma commented on the widespread interest. "Relebohile Mofokeng deserved the recognition he's been getting, because he has put in the work which is showing in his performance in Europe," Anuma said.

Anuma suggested that, for the player's development, a move to a club like Napoli or Brighton might be more suitable than an immediate jump to a giant like Chelsea. He urged patience, advising that Mofokeng could benefit from staying at Union SG for two full seasons before making a bigger move.

The news comes as Chelsea look to bolster their attacking options. Their next fixture is a Premier League match against Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, 21 September, with kick-off scheduled for 15:00 BST. Fans can also review the club's current squad and standings for further context on the team's structure and league position. Mofokeng remains under a long-term contract with his Belgian club, with any potential transfer likely to command a significant fee.
