Chelsea FC have named a 27-man squad for their pre-season tour of Australia and Asia - but two summer signings won’t be part of it. Emmanuel Emegha and Geovany Quenda have both been left out, with the Blues already 10th in the Premier League after last season’s 52-point haul.

What happened to Emegha and Quenda?

Emegha, who joined from Strasbourg in the summer, scored in both of Chelsea’s closed-door friendlies under Xabi Alonso. But a hamstring injury picked up against Bromley on Thursday will keep him out of at least part of the tour. Quenda, another summer arrival, has a minor unspecified issue that’s not believed to be serious.

Alonso’s squad is packed with young talent. Reggie Walsh, Reggie Watson and Ryan Kavuma-McQueen are among the highly-regarded teenagers called up. Mahdi Nicoll-Jazuli, a 16-year-old Australia-born England youth international, is also in the group. So is Dastan Satpaev, a 17-year-old striker who completed his move from FC Kairat this summer.

Who else is missing - and why?

Nicolas Jackson and Pedro Neto are both attracting interest from other clubs. Their absence from the tour squad is down to extended leave after England’s World Cup campaign. Morgan Rogers is also on a break after the same tournament. Marco Palestra, another new signing, is the only summer arrival travelling with the group.

Axel Disasi is another notable absentee. He hasn’t returned for pre-season training and isn’t with the tour squad as Chelsea look to negotiate his departure. The Blues would prefer a permanent exit, valuing him at £25million plus add-ons. They’re also open to a loan with a conditional obligation to buy, similar to the deal they struck with Aston Villa for Alejandro Garnacho earlier this week.

Maxence Lacroix joins as Disasi eyes exit

Disasi’s potential move comes as Chelsea finalise the arrival of Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace. Lacroix has undergone a medical and his £52million switch is expected to be completed on Friday. The French defender will bolster a defence that conceded 52 goals last season.

With the new season still weeks away, Chelsea sit 33 points behind league leaders Arsenal. Their pre-season tour offers a chance to blood youngsters and test fringe players before the campaign resumes. The Blues have already scored 58 goals last season but need to tighten up at the back if they’re to climb the table this time around.
