Manchester City is reportedly making significant progress in signing Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea, with the Blues bracing themselves for a bid before their transfer deadline. The 22-year-old midfielder has been a key player for Chelsea in recent seasons, and new head coach Enzo Maresca is eager to bring him back to the club where they enjoyed a successful period together at Stamford Bridge. However, Chelsea may have to brace themselves for a bid from City, which could come before their self-imposed deadline.
City will likely need to raise funds to meet the £120m asking price for Fernandez, who has been linked with a number of top clubs. The club has already spent £116m on Elliot Anderson this summer and is closing in on an £85m deal for Lille youngster Ayyoub Bouaddi. A cash windfall could be imminent via the sale of Tijjani Reijnders, who is currently at the Etihad Stadium after moving from AC Milan in a £46.5m transfer just a year ago.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Saudi Pro League club Al Qadsiah are in advanced talks with City to sign Reijnders and are close to agreeing a deal worth around £60m. This could provide the funds needed to complete a deal for Fernandez, although City is also seeking a figure in that region for Rodri after rejecting two bids from Barcelona. Talks are ongoing between the two clubs, with the World Cup winner said to favour a move to Barcelona over any other club, with Real Madrid also credited with interest in the 30-year-old.
