Chelsea FC dropped two points at home to Hull City on Saturday after defensive mistakes allowed the visitors to fight back for a 2-2 draw. The result extends Chelsea's winless run to five home games against newly-promoted Premier League sides.

Morgan Rogers gave Chelsea a perfect start, firing in from close range after just seven minutes following a clever pass from João Pedro. But the lead lasted only 21 minutes before a costly error from Jorrel Hato. The defender's poor touch was intercepted, allowing Mohamed Belloumi to run through and slot past Emi Martinez.

Six minutes later, Hull were ahead. Levi Colwill attempted to block a cross from Oliver McBurnie, but the ball deflected off him and fell perfectly for Belloumi to score his second of the afternoon. Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso saw his team struggle to create clear chances until the 66th minute, when João Pedro levelled the score with a composed finish from Cole Palmer's assist.

Martinez and Tzolakis make key saves

Both goalkeepers were called into action to preserve the point. Martinez made a vital stop to deny McBurnie in the 61st minute, while Hull's Konstantinos Tzolakis kept out a Morgan Rogers effort in the 84th minute and a James free-kick earlier in the half. Mohamed-Ali Cho also forced a late save from Martinez as Chelsea pushed for a winner.

Hull manager Sergej Jakirovic had joked before the match about how to stop Alonso's attack. "The only way to stop Xabi Alonso's potent attack was to kick them," he said. His team took a more conventional route, capitalising on Chelsea's errors to remain unbeaten in the league this season.

The draw leaves Chelsea fourth in the Premier League with six points from three games, three points behind leaders Manchester City. They have scored eight goals but conceded seven, highlighting the defensive issues that cost them against Hull. The team's recent form shows three wins, one draw and one loss from their last five matches.

Chelsea face a quick turnaround with an away trip to Brentford next on Wednesday, 18 September. Brentford currently sit fifth, one place below Chelsea in the table. Alonso will be without several players for that fixture, including Emmanuel Emegha, Jordan Henderson, Marco Palestra and Moisés Caicedo.
